The UK operation of Sunbelt Rentals – previously A-Plant – has promoted chief operating officer Phil Parker to chief executive designate – he will replace Andy Wright who is stepping down at the end April after more than four years in the role.
The succession plan announced was announced internally last April and will now come into force.
Phil Parker joined the company as finance director in January 2016, he had previously held a similar role at IT services company Capita. He was promoted to chief financial officer in 2019, and chief operating officer last April. He began his career in 2001 as an assistant manager at the management consulting and services firm Deloitte & Touche – now simply Deloitte. After three years with the firm, he was moved to facilities services company Enterprise as head of finance. In late 2008 he was appointed as finance director for telecoms group BT, leaving for Capita at the end of 2011.
He has been working closely with Wright since last year in order to ensure a smooth transition, Wright joined the business as chief operating officer in 2019, becoming chief executive a year later. He joined the company from Speedy where he had been managing director of the UK & Ireland for three years. Before that he spent seven years with Lavendon – in the UK and the Middle East, having been managing director of Aggreko Northern Europe for more than six years. At 57 he has not reached the normal age of retirement – so watch this space.
Group chief executive Brendan Horgan said: “I would like to personally thank Andy Wright for his collaboration and transformative leadership. Sunbelt Rentals is a better business today as a direct result of his ambition and efforts.”
