The Titan crane ready to open next week

In order to make the whole crane accessible to visitors, a lift has been installed to take visitors 50 odd metres up to the cranes to the jib and wheelhouse some.

The crane was used at the John Brown shipyard, where it helped with the construction of a number of famous ships, such as the Lusitania and the QE2.

This unit is one of five Titan cranes designed by Sir William Arrol for the Clyde yards, it survived a wartime blitz unscathed despite being a principle target for German bombers.

Those making the journey to the top will be able to see the full running gear of the crane as well as see film footage from famous events such as the launches of the Queen Mary and the QE2.
