Lomma Crane & Rigging of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania has taken delivery two Link-Belt 227 tonne telescopic crawler cranes which it has supplied to a project to build two bridges over the Wateree River in Kershaw County, South Carolina, which is being carried out by Lane Construction construct .
The TCC-2500 pass easily under the bridges
The TCC-2500 features a seven section, 67.9 metre pinned main boom, which can be further extended with a 12.1 to 20.4 metre bi-fold extension with up to 45 degrees of offset, that can be further extended with two 7.62 metre inserts for a maximum tip height of 105.5 metres. Power comes from a Tier 4 Final Cummins diesel. The matching main and auxiliary winches feature extra wide drums that allow it to handle its maximum permissible line pull through the fourth layer of rope and the rear mounted auxiliary winch can be quickly removed to reduce transport weight.
The new bridges will replace two older bridges from the 1970s, the contract calls for their demolition and replacement withouth shuttin gdown the waterway that runs below open. The project is part of a South Carolina Department of Transportation bridge rehabilitation effort.
Installing the temporary trestles
The two cranes were initally used to build temporary trestles on each side of the river, before working wiht the piling equipment to carry out the foundation work for the bridges. Lane initially planned to use a traditional lattice boom crawler, but switched to the TCC-2500s due to the tight job site, and their abiloty to quickly pull in their booms to pass back and forth under the existing structures.

The cranes are forecast to remain on site for six to eight months or until the project is completed.
