11 Sunwards for SDC

Northern Irish semi-trailer manufacturer SDC Trailers has purchased 11 Sunward slab electric scissor lifts for its production facilities.

Founded in 1978 the company operates four production plants in the UK and Ireland, manufacturer curtain sider, box van, platform, skeletal, drawbar and machine carrier trailers for logistics operators, supermarket chains and rental companies.
The order includes five 15ft SWSL 0607DC, five 19ft SWSL 0807DC and a 16ft SWSL 1008DC 10m lift which will be used by SDC’s production team in Toomebridge – north west of Antrim and Belfast. The others will be split between plants in Antrim, Mansfield and Southampton.

The units were purchased through Sunward’s dealer for Northern Ireland, AJ Armstrong and Sons and was made possible by a working relationship that the company has with SDC Trailers’ production manager Eoin McErlean. He agreed to an onsite demonstration, which he says: ‘sealed the deal’ for him.

The company has been renting in scissor lifts to work within its production line for many years typically to assist in the manufacture of curtain-sided trailers across its four sites. But has now decided to buy its own units. “The equipment demo gave us the opportunity to evaluate the electric machines onsite and long term it looked more financially attractive to buy from Sunward,” said McErlean, adding : “I knew if Andrew was happy with them, they were going to be good.”
