New Genies ready for Europe

Genie is upgrading its ‘core’ slab scissor lift range with the aim of improving performance, while reducing the total cost of ownership. Dubbed the ‘Next-Generation Genie’ the models will include the 19ft GSTM-1932, 26ft GS-2632, 32ft GS-3232 - narrow models - plus the wider 26ft GS-2646, 32ft GS-3246 and 40ft GS-4046 scissor lifts.

The key specifications

The most noticeable change is a new curved scissor arm linkage design, which it says reduces machine weight, helping reduce the size of some components or increase performance such as batteries, drive motors and other electrical components which have a lower replacement parts cost. The new units are available to deliver in Europe now and will be launched in North America at the ARA Show at the end of January, with deliveries not due until later in the year.

Other design changes are the result of detailed design and performance analysis at the beginning of Genie’s development process to identify opportunities to eliminate rust, limit the opportunity for damage, and reduce wear and tear.

They include:
- A new chassis design that avoids water pooling on top.
- The use of reinforced steel on the roll out extension decks to help prevent damage or bending, while improving rigidity.
- Steel reinforcement plates around the fork pockets to help avoid damage through misalignment when loading.

Genie also focused on increasing componentry and service parts commonality and consistency across the product line. It says that overall, there are fewer serviceable components than with previous generations and of the components that remain, at least 70 percent have commonality across the product line, simplifying fleet management as does a consistent parts layout in easy-to reach locations.

It has also reduced the number of battery types or sizes to just two across the entire range with FLA batteries in North America, and standard maintenance free AGM batteries in other regions. Lithium-ion will also be available as an option globally. The company has also developed a new ‘Battery Guard’ option to help reduce the chance of theft.
No need to fold guardrails any more on the 19ft model

Finally, there are a number of individual improvements such as fixed guard rails allowing the passage through standard doors without the need for them to be folded. The platform is 20 percent larger as a result. A new ‘Smart Link’ platform controller is 30 percent lighter, a more ergonomic design and is modular, enabling the replacement of parts, rather than the whole thing. It also has been updated to align to a new ISO 21455:2020 standard.

Additionally, items such as Genie Lift Tools and Spill Guard hydraulic oil containment system will be standard on the new scissors in North America.

Senior global product manager Christian Dube said: “Genie’s Next-Generation Scissor Lifts are redefining the standard for slab scissor lifts and moving this classic aerial lift category into the future. Our priority when redesigning these lifts was to drive lower cost of ownership, improve serviceability and enhance the user experience - all while delivering the quality that our customers and the industry expect from Genie.”

“On their own, each individual update is an incremental improvement. But, when considered together as a system, and across the product line, the result is a family of machines that add value by reducing costs while improving performance and serviceability.”
