Boom lift record breaker

Chinese manufacturer Zoomlion is planning a new 265ft telescopic boom lift, the ZT82J, for launch mid next year.
The new platform made an appearance at last week’s Bauma China show in the form of a first prototype. So subject to change as it goes through its full test and evaluation programmes.

It features a six section main boom, with two telescope cylinders, one to extend the second section, while the other cylinder telescopes the third section, along with the top three sections which are cable extended, the boom is topped buy a 13.1 metre three section articulating jib for working heights up to 82.3 metres. That compares with the five section boom and two section jib on the current boom lift record holder the 215ft Zoomlion ZT68J.

The maximum outreach on the new machine is 34.1 metres with 230kg in the platform, a little less with 300kg. The maximum platform capacity will be 454kg. The overall operating width has yet to be stated but is expected to be just over 5.5 metres.
The new model has an overall stowed width of 2.8 metres, an overall stowed length of 17.5 metres and an overall height of 3.33 metres. Total weight is expected to be 48.5 tonnes.

Four wheel drive and four wheel steer are standard, and power comes from a Cummins diesel.

The new boom takes over as the world’s largest boom lift from the 223ft XCMG XGS70K telescopic boom lift several of which have already been delivered in the UK, with others operating in the Nertherlands. Before that it was Zoomlion’s 215ft ZT68J 215ft ZT68J - unveiled at Bauma China in November 2020.

The first ZT68J was delivered 11 months later with the first few sold locally. The company expects the same will apply with its big brother but says that it has received interest from other parts of Asia and the Middle East for petrochemical installation and maintenance applications.
As far as we are aware none of the ZT68Js have yet made it to Europe, where the smaller 186ft ZT58J is preferred. However, units have been sold in North and South America See: Zoomlion’s big boom arrives in N. America.

I’m wondering if Genie and JLG will come up with equally big machines. The 2 of them have dominated the market for so long but now it seems the tables are turning.
