Konecranes acquires Peinemann's subsidiaries
Finnish port, industrial/overhead crane and reach stacker manufacturer Konecranes has acquired two Peinemann subsidiaries: Peinemann Port Services and Peinemann Container Handling. Peinemann Container Handling has been distributing Konecrane lift trucks in the Netherlands since 2009. The deal was agreed in October, but has now received the all clear from Dutch completion authorities.
Konecranes says some 100 employees will join the company now the deal has been finalised, adding the acquisition will have no impact on its distribution arrangements outside of the Netherlands.
Paolo Dazi, senior vice president of Konecranes Port Services said: “The acquisition of Peinemann’s Port Services and Container Handling businesses will expand our footprint and increase our service presence in Europe’s largest port, where we already have strong customer relationships and a significant fleet of both automated and manual equipment."
Konecranes senior vice president Lift Trucks Andreas Falk added: “This agreement gives us the chance to further expand our services and equipment offering in the Netherlands and, with the new sales channels the Peinemann businesses will bring, accelerate our plans to transition to battery-powered electric vehicles in a critical market.”
The Peinemann group includes crane, aerial lift and telehandler rental, and has been active in the forklift sales, rental and service business in the Rotterdam area since it was established in 1954.
The Peinemann family originally owned a cigar shop, but in 1954, the family began renting forklifts out to warehouses in the rapidly growing port, often providing operators with them, given the novelty of such equipment. In 1975, the second generation took over, in the form of brothers Jaap and Peter Peinemann, and in the following years expanded the business into an international operation with seven locations in the Netherlands and several specialist operations around the world.
The group's rental fleet now includes 6210 units including All Terrain and mobile tower cranes, loader cranes and crawler cranes up to 600 tonnes, as well as aerial work platforms, telehandlers, boom lifts and forklifts with over 1,200 employees.
