Seven Hybrid RTGs For Spanish Port

Spanish container terminal CSP Iberian Valencia has ordered seven hybrid Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (RTG’s) from Konecranes, with delivery scheduled for March next year.

The new units - which will join 11 existing hybrid RTGs currently operating at the company's Valencia and Bilbao terminals - will be equipped with hybrid power packs that combine a diesel engine and battery pack. They will also include Konecranes’ Active Load Control system, which eliminates container sway, as well as the Auto steering feature, which keeps the crane on a straight, pre-programmed drive path.

CSP general manager Gustavo Ferrer Soriano said: "This investment is another important step on our way to an emission free port operation. We maintain a very close business relationship with Konecranes, which is based on many years of reliable performance. The company's hybrid technology is the solution that modern ports need."

The order is part of the terminal's long term emissions reduction programme. This is the third order from the region for Konecranes this year, with other ports in Spain and the Canary Islands also transitioning to hybrid technology.

Darryn Scheepers, Konecranes sales director added: “Thanks to the partnership with Konecranes, many port operators in the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands are currently in the process of a full transition to more sustainable operation - this is already our third agreement for the region, which we announced in 2025. The increasing acceptance of our hybrid drive technology speaks for itself, so we achieve high operating performance and at the same time achieve sustainability goals."
