A man has survived a serious incident in Louisiana when the basket of the bucket truck he was working from was smashed by a large truck while he was repairing an overhead traffic light on Wednesday.
The man, an employee of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), was working over the highway in Denham Springs to the east of Baton Rouge, when the articulated truck passed underneath, with the trailer catching the bucket breaking it apart and upending the man, who was thankfully wearing a harness with a short lanyard attached. The entire episode was captured on the dashcam of motorist Bill Atkinson.
The rest of the crew after overcoming their immediate shock quickly brought the broken platform and its dangling occupant to the ground. Thankfully the man, who has not been named only suffered minor injuries and walked away from the incident and according to police did not even require a trip to the hospital.
One thought is the lack of any ‘cordoning off’ or use of cones, and the traffic direction leaves can hardly be described as ‘tip top’. But all is well that ends well and hopefully this video will help others see the risks and take better care when working in similar situations.
