A service engineer died in the western Melbourne suburb of Laverton North, earlier this week after the platform of the scissor lift, he was working on came into contact with overhead power lines.
The lift was being used on a tunnel project in the city. The lift had been moved to the stand-down area of the site where the engineer was servicing it.
According to Worksafe Victoria, the man, 34, was working on the lift, from the Clennet Hire fleet, and was using the lower controls to cycle the machine which it touched the overhead wires causing the power to run to earth.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the man, but he was declared dead at the scene.
