Three Potain MC 480s on bridge

Three 25 tonne Potain MC 480 tower cranes have been used to construct the main pylons for the 1,060 metre, high altitude, Luding Dadu River Bridge in China, part of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway.

Potain dealer Xiamen Vigors Mechanical Equipment installed the cranes in November 2022 and completed the job last month.

The three cranes worked with jib lengths of between 40 and 60 metres, operating at their maximum 25 tonne capacity. The pylon construction configuration included a 21 metre steel formwork section that provided no tie-offs, so the cranes worked around it as the structure rose and completed the 262.8 metre and 255.8 metre main pylons on schedule.

Wang Zhiwei, head of engineering at Manitowoc China said:: “The MC 480 was ideal for this project as its delivered the lift capacities and performance needed for demanding infrastructure applications like this one.”
