Palfinger adds to marine range

Palfinger has added a new model to its marine crane line up, the PFM 1200 aimed at the latest service vessels and workboats for the aquaculture market – the farming of aquatic organisms such as fish, crustaceans, molluscs and algae.

We have yet to see the specification for the new crane, which will be officially launched at the SMM event in Hamburg at the start of September. But we do know that it has a maximum boom length of just over 26 metres, at which point it can handle up to 1,820kg, in winch mode. A high-speed extension system enables short operating cycles and more efficient operation /performance.

The first unit is due to be delivered in September to Bergen Hydraulic for Frøy Akvaressurs which will deploy it on the service vessel Frøy Fighter. It offers 4.8 metres more reach than the crane it replaces on the vessel.

The PFM range also includes the PFM 1500, PFM 2100, PFM 2500, PFM 3500 and PFM 4500, plus the new PFM 1200. Two further models are in the pipeline – the PFM 3700, and PFM 4800.

The company said: “The expansion of the PFM series marks another step in the implementation of the Strategy 2030+ and underscores Palfinger's ambition to actively shape the future of marine lifting solutions.”

“The trend toward larger service vessels and workboats is increasing the requirements for marine cranes. Greater outreach and lifting capacity are in demand, while keeping the crane's own weight as low as possible and maintaining identical interfaces for easy replacement. We developed the PFM 1200 specifically for this purpose.”
