Halo acquires W.O. Grubb Crane

San Diego, California based private equity firm Halo has acquired Richmond, Virginia, based crane rental and heavy haulage company W.O.Grubb. The Grubb snf Halo managment teams said that while the transaction represents new ownership, its mission and day to day operations will remain unchanged.

Grubb president Mike Good said: “Our company was built on a strong foundation. That legacy will continue to guide everything we do. I have personally known the principals at Halo for over a decade and am excited to partner with them to accelerate our growth trajectory from the foundation our management team and the Grubb family have built.”

Halo said that it will bring operational, financial, and strategic resources to the business that will support continued fleet investment and modernisation, along with technology upgrades and operational enhancements. And most importantly, perhaps, strategic add-on opportunities.

W.O. Grubb was established in 1962 by Willie O. Grubb, the son of a crane operator. In 1985, his son, Bill Grubb, purchased the company, continuing his father’s legacy. Under his leadership, the company went through a period of strong growth and today operates from three locations in its headquarters town of Richmond, plus 11 branches in the mid-Atlantic region, Alexandria, Baltimore, Fredericksburg, Newport News, Portsmouth, Roanoke, Greensboro, Wilmington, Winchester and Gainesville, with around 450 employees in total.
