Australian powered access safety equipment manufacturer Equipment Safety Systems (EQSS) has appointed Certek as its distributor for Ireland, for both its OverWatch secondary guarding system and the all new UpWatch system for low level platforms that were unveiled at Vertikal Days.
Based in Mullingar, Certek will handle sales, deliveries, spare parts, training, demonstrations and technical familiarisation. Founded in 2004, the company specialises in the certification and inspection of aerial work platforms, and also carries out IPAF accredited training, service, refurbishment and repair work.
The deal was struck at Vertikal Days Certek managing director, Enda Geoghegan said:"We want to make OverWatch and UpWatch available on all job sites in Ireland. We firmly believe in improving safety for people working at height, and partnering with EQSS gives us the opportunity to bring proven secondary guarding technology directly to the Irish market. One of the major advantages of the EQSS systems is their versatility. They can be retrofitted across different makes and models of equipment, making them a practical solution for rental fleets and contractors operating mixed fleets."

Launched at Vertikal Days UpWatch has been developed for low level self-propelled and push around platforms, it uses the same LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) based sensing as OverWatch, monitoring the operator's position and intervening when it detects a potential crushing or entrapment hazard - it can be retrofitted to machines developed by a number of different manufacturers. The well established OverWatch product is designed for scissor and mast lifts.
EQSS global business manager, Andrew Delahunt added: "The growth of low level access has changed how people work at height, but secondary guarding technology hasn't evolved at the same pace. UpWatch closes that gap, giving contractors a way to apply the same approach to operator protection across more of their access fleet. Certek brings extensive knowledge of the access industry together with a strong focus on safety, training and customer support. Having that expertise on the ground will allow us to better support Irish rental companies and contractors."
EQSS is based in Melbourne, Australia, and produces electronic operator protection systems for mobile elevating work platforms. Its secondary guarding products are in use in Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region, the UK, Europe and the United States.
