HD to supply Manitou

French International telehandler and aerial lift manufacturer Manitou has signed an OEM supply agreement with South Korea’s HD Construction Equipment (Hyundai Devlon) for the provision of Manitou / Gehl branded compact equipment.
HD, formed earlier this year, produces Hyundai mini excavators and skid steer loaders - both wheeled and tracked in its compact equipment line.

The agreement is worldwide, with distribution through Manitou, subsidiaries, distributors and dealers, with the French manufacturer covering all parts, service and warranty for the products it sells as if they were Manitou built.
HD also hopes to benefit from Manitou’s engineering and manufacturing expertise to enhance its own brand products. Manitou hopes that the deal will add a further five percent to its revenues by 2030.

Manitou chief executive Sylvain Blaise said: “This agreement fully aligns with our strategic roadmap aimed at accelerating our growth in compact equipment ranges. By combining the industrial excellence and innovative capabilities of two major industry leaders. The alliance allows us not only to reach a new milestone in product line expansion, but also to deliver enhanced value to our dealer network and customers worldwide.”

HD chief executive Jaeyoung Moon added: “This partnership is more than just enhancing our product lines, it opens up important new growth opportunities through significant market expansion. By bringing together our strengths, we will boost the competitiveness of our compact products and enhance our global presence.”

Vertikal Comment

Agreements such as this can be very challenging for both partners, they rarely work well or last long, or they yield a long term benefit to one of the two companies, and not the other. It all depends on how seriously each of them treats it.

This one does have clear potential for both, while both parties are serious companies with integrity and are likely to keep to the spirit of a deal as well as the written words of the contract.
