Megamax to merge

Belgian crane rental companies Megamax Limburg and Megamax Wallonia are to merge into the Megamax group under the umbrella of tower crane sales and rental company Neremat Holding.

Megamax Wallonia was established in 2002 and is based in Feluy to the north of Charleroi, while Megamax Limburg was set up by Martin Jacobs and his son Leonard (Leo) in 2016 in Hasselt, due east of Brussels, as part of Neremat tower cranes, which in turn was founded by Gilbert Neirynck in 1985 and is based in Izegem, north of Kortrijk in Flanders.

As part of the change which takes effect at the end of the month - tomorrow - Leo Jacobs will take up the new role of managing director of Megamax Holding, while the Feluy based business, which is managed by Koen van Hecke, will rebrand as Megamax Wallonie-Bruxelles.

The new Megamax group has a fleet of more than 50 cranes, including All Terrains up to a 450 tonne Liebherr LTM 1450, a couple of telescopic crawler cranes - topped by a 60 tonne Liebherr LTR 1060, and Liebherr MK self-erecting mobile tower cranes and last year added a 15 tonne Ormig pick & carry crane. The fleet is split roughly 50/50 between the two locations.

Jacobs said: “Megamax Limburg will of course remain on the Limburg market with the expansion of Brabant & the Kempen. Megamax Wallonie Bruxelles will continue to focus on Brussels, Hainaut, Namur and Brabant where it will overlap with the depot of Limburg.”
