Mantis looks at US crane manufacturing base

Mantis Cranes of Donegal, Ireland is looking at the possibility of setting up a manufacturing base in the USA. The company is already supplying the US market - worth an estimated €700 million a year - through a joint venture deal with New York State-based Celtic Self Erecting Cranes Inc set up earlier this year.

Mantis Cranes, set up in 1999, introduced the self erecting crane to Ireland and is the only manufacturer of self erecting cranes outside mainland Europe. Manufacturing is in Killygordon where there are 42 people employed. The company has been growing at a steady pace for the past few years and was a finalist in the 2006 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
