Truck mount accident in Bulgaria

An aging Powered Access Acklift truck mounted aerial lift tipped over in the town of Galabovo, Southern Bulgaria last week killing to men.

Nikola Stoyanov, 27, and fellow worker, Aleksandar Nikolov, 26, were around 20 metres up in the lift working on the steel frame of a building when the lift tipped over backwards.

The fallen lift

The lift was rented in for the job but according to initial reports, “Had not passed an annual technical inspection, was not in good working order, licensed or registered for operating in Bulgaria,”

The Stara Zagora regional technical Inspectorate has order an inspection, and legal proceedings have apparently been instituted. The accident is the latest in a series of workplace accidents in the region which have injured over 200 and killed eight.

Vertikal Comment

While local reports have focused on the condition of the machine and its lack of certification, it looks as though the cause is down to stability, either the outriggers punched through the ground or the lift has been remounted on a truck that is not matched to the lift?
