Manitowoc appoints innovation chief

Manitowoc Cranes has appointed Andreas Schwer as senior vice president of global engineering and innovation. In this role, he will be responsible for driving innovation within the cranes division and coordinating overall global engineering activities to enhance Manitowoc’s culture of innovation and new technology.

Andreas Schwer


Schwer was previously vice president of design and development at EADS Eurocopter. He has worked for Daimler Benz Aerospace, the European Space Agency and the Institute for Space Systems at the University of Stuttgart. He will be based in Europe, but will travel extensively in this newly created role.

Schwer reports to Eric Etchart, Manitowoc’s president and general manager who said: “I am excited to have someone with Andreas’ expertise and leadership abilities join our organization in this role. He brings impressive experience in transferring best-practice thinking into practical applications and establishing strategic partnerships with vendors and customers to drive and develop breakthrough technologies.”
