Many thanks to a reader who took the following photographs while on her honeymoon in Nepal.

They show unusual combinations of bamboo and steel tubes to create some of the worst scaffolding we have seen.

In the first case two men working between eight and nine metres up have erected some of the crudest forms of scaffold ever, using bamboo and the odd steel tube.

Two men work at height, one balanced on a board and one on a narrow ledge

One man stands on a ledge with no protection should he step back.

The second example appears to defy gravity as it cantilevers out from the building, no one in their right mind would trust their lives to this form of access, yet it is still all too typical in some parts of the world.
