Cargotec to make further reductions

Cargotec, owner of Hiab says that it has opened negations for temporary lay-offs of around 900 staff at its Raisio and Tampere facilities in Finland.

The company says that it plans to adjust production capacity and operations mainly through the temporary layoffs affecting all employees at these plants for a fixed period of up to 90 days.

It is also looking at other costs savings and up to 60 permanent lay-offs in Tampere.

The cuts are due, it says: “to the uncertainty of the global materials handling equipment market and decline in demand for its Hiab and Kalmar products.

The new measures are an addition to restructuring measures announced late last year. Cargotec has a total of around 1,700 employees in Finland.
