TECHNICAL OFFICER


The International Powered Access Federation is looking for an experienced Technical Officer to join us when the current officer retires early in 2011. This is a senior position which will involve international travel and liaison with the most senior members of the access industry around the world. The right person will make a significant contribution to forthcoming design standards, safe use guidelines and the safe use of powered access.
IPAF is a not-for-profit industry organisation owned by its members who are manufacturers, rental companies and end-users of powered access around the world. The IPAF Technical Officer provides technical advice and support to those members and to other IPAF staff members. He/She is also responsible for pro-actively monitoring, cataloguing and influencing relevant legislation around the world.
Responsibilities include: representing IPAF's members on national, regional and international committees preparing guidelines and legislation on the safe design and use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs); developing IPAF guidelines and policies; convening some of IPAF's own committees; liaising with members and national authorities around the world; proactively looking for ways to provide support to our members.
The successful candidate will have proven experience of analysing, implementing and/or developing technical guidelines and standards in the MEWP industry. He/She will have the skills to achieve consensus within technical meetings and to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries. The ability to summarise and interpret technical information to non-technical personnel is vital.
The position could be based in the UK (Cumbria), Switzerland (Basel) or the US (homeworking). The successful candidate will report directly to the IPAF Managing Director. More information about the position can be found in the job description.
