Rick Jaeger-Fozard 1984-2013

The man who died after the boom lift he was testing overturned onto the M25 in London has been named and funeral details announced.

He was Richard (Rick) Jaeger-Fozard, 29, the depot foreman at Kimberly Access’ Iver depot. He was giving a new Genie Z135/70 a Pre-Delivery Inspection and test and must have been close to full height when it went over, with the platform coming to rest on the hard shoulder of the M25 motorway – London’s outer ring road/beltway.

Rick Jaeger-Fozard

Born in Halifax, he grew up in Huddersfield, Yorkshire as the eldest of three boys, he was a keen musician from a young age and played the tuba in a number of brass bands in the Yorkshire and Greater Manchester areas, following his father Tony’s footsteps as a brass band conductor.

In 2003 he joined the British Army Corps of Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME), serving four years before moving into the access industry when he joined JLG in 2007 where he learnt most of his access skills. He later moved to hydraulic hose repair specialist Pirtek and then rejoined the access industry with 1st Access Rentals and then Kimberly Access in 2011, first of all in Wigan, then Pontefract, before moving to the Iver depot. .

He leaves behind wife Steph and two year old daughter Freya as well as brothers James and Paul. His mother passed away in 2008. His father Tony said: “He was a strapping lad, and loved to laugh, although he took his work very seriously. We have been amazed at the number of his friends and colleagues who have been in contact and sent messages of support and condolences”

The funeral will be held at 14:00 hours on Friday June 28th at Oldham/Hollingwood crematorium ,Roman Road, Oldham OL83LU

Family support fund

Following a number of requests from regular readers of Vertikal.Net and industry people, we are helping organise the setting up of a fund for his wife and daughter.

The International Powered Access Federation has agreed to accept donations in its special bank account for charitable purposes on the basis that former IPAF president Leigh Sparrow oversee the administration of the account in conjunction with IPAF chief executive Tim Whiteman. IPAF has proposed that the account run through July 31st, and that at that time all funds collected in the account be transferred to the immediate family.

One group of industry executives has already indicated that they will donate funds raised by their annual charity bike tour to the fund. There have also been a number of other fund raising suggestions revolving around Vertikal Days next week.
