Manitowoc adds support centre in India

Manitowoc Cranes is expanding its customer support in India with a new Contact Centre at the company’s manufacturing and headquarters facility in Pune.

The new centre can be reached via a toll free number - 000 800 852 1345, which is also connected to Manitowoc’s international telephone network and support centres in France, the USA and China, meaning customers can call any time or day and speak to a technician.

Technical staff at the new centre are trained on all Manitowoc products and are able to dispatch service personnel, arrange parts shipment, provide technical application support and provide a host of other services.

Manitowoc builds several top-slewing tower cranes at its Pune factory, while it’s long standing manufacturing partner TIL, builds Grove mobile cranes under license in the Kolkata area.

Raman Joshi, managing director of Manitowoc Cranes India said: “This new Contact Centre in Pune shows our dedication to customer support. It is the first of its kind for crane users in India and part of our on-going commitment to our customers. It ensures they get maximum productivity from their Manitowoc cranes, while also minimizing downtime. Our overall strategy for India is working well. We are seeing growing demand, so we have increased production and staff levels at our Pune factory. Also, our program of continuous advancements means quality is improving and allows customers to do more on the job site.”

“We’ve also increased our inventory of spare parts in India by 25 percent and we are adding service engineers across the country. Our dealers are also carrying parts and have trained engineers on their staff. So when combined with the existing resources we have, it means we are all closer to our goal”

Gurdeep Singh, country manager for Manitowoc Crane Care added: “Manitowoc puts huge emphasis on safety, so we are happy to see that philosophy growing not only in India, but in other Asian markets. A good example is the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which recently sent 53 representatives and contractors to Manitowoc for training on safe crane use.

“In 2009 we trained fewer than 100 participants in India, but in 2010 that number jumped to 222 and for 2011 it was over 350. Our aim is to respond to any ‘crane down’ situation within 48 hours. We are also hoping to get representation within 200 km of all our customers across India.”
