Potain to build MCT 135 in India

Manitowoc is to build the Potain MCT 135 flat top tower crane at its production facility in Pune, India, in addition to the current production at its plant in China.

The company is expecting local production of the new model will increase its popularity in both India and the surrounding markets. The Pune plant already builds the smaller Potain MCT 85 flat top.

As the new crane goes into production, the company will gradually phase out production of the MC 125 saddle jib tower crane. The MCT 135 is a stronger crane, which is also easier to transport and assemble compared with the MC 125.

The MCT 135 was launched at the Potain facility in Zhangjiagang, China in 2021, the H6 version can lift up to six tonnes at 19.3 metres when equipped with its full 60 metre jib, while the H8 version can take eight tonnes to 15.3 metres. The entire top part of the crane, with the 60 metre jib, can be transported in five containers and assembled in a day and a half on a well prepared jobsite. Manitowoc India managing director Prashant Suryawanshi said: “Customers are impressed with the performance of the new crane, especially its lifting capability across the load curve. It also delivers speed, flexibility, and can be sited on even the most compact projects. With two models available, customers can select the one that is right for their needs.”
