William Metts 1941 -2010

William Metts a ‘leading light’ at Taylor Machine Works, the heavy fork truck, reach stacker and gantry crane manufacturer, passed away on July 17th.

Metts, was director of marketing at Taylor for more than 38 years, having joined the company in 1959 as a service engineer covering the Southeast, His knowledge of the Taylor products and positive "get the job done no matter what it takes" spirit led him into the Taylor sales organisation with a short period of time.

Metts is credited with leading the company through its formative years as head of sales and service during the transition from an Agricultural and Forestry equipment manufacturer into the big lift material handling company that Taylor is today and establishing the sales organisation dealer network.

He was also responsible for the company’s “sudden service philosophy” which developed into Sudden Service, Inc.

A company press release says: “There has never been a better forklift salesman than William Metts. He will be greatly missed by the Big Red Team and especially his loving Taylor - Metts family.”

Metts died suddenly on Saturday, July 17, at Winston Medical Center. Louisville, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife, Nelda Childs Metts, daughters, Delisa and LaShearer, son, William and step-daughter, Sonjia.
