Fatal telehandler accident

A telehandler fitted with a work platform tipped over in Wyanett, to the north of Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday killing one of its occupants.

Mark Robert Anderson, 40, was helping erect a mobile phone mast for Genesis Wireless on Saturday evening. He was working from a platform fitted to the fully extended boom of the Lull telehandler when it appears to have tipped over sideways.

The telehandler tipped onto its side


The machine was being operated from the cab by another man who was also injured in the accident. The accident is being investigated by the Isanti County Sheriff's Office and OSHA.

The basket was not fully integrated

It is very hard form the material that we have been sent to understand what went wrong here – given the information we have been sent. Our correspondent did not mention any significant side slopes that might have caused this and if only one person was in the platform the unit would have been well within capacity.

Hopefully we will learn more from the investigation and if so will pass it on with an update.
