CC8800 lifts Germany’s first near-shore turbine

Belguim-based crane hire company, Sarens, recently supplied the crane power to assist in the erection of Germany’s first near-shore wind power turbine in the middle of the Ems River. Sarens opted for its recently acquired 1,250-tonne capacity Terex-Demag CC8800 crawler crane for the task of lifting the turbine’s massive 850-tonne steel tower with 53-metre long rotor blades.

The lifts were made all the more challenging due to the fact that the massive crane had to be loaded onto a pontoon in order to reach the final resting location of the turbine. The crane was rigged in SSL/LSL configuration at a system length of 138 metres, a with a Superlift counterweight of 400 tonnes, a central weight of 100 tonnes and 220 tonnes of counterweight.
