Konecranes acquires in Chile

Finnish based Konecranes has acquired Gruas Koman Limitada, its former Chilean licensee, based in Recoleta, Santiago.

The acquisition, made through its Konecranes Americas operation in Springfield, Ohio, also includes the Peruvian start-up subsidiary, Koman Gruas Peru.

Koman specialise in the provision of advanced overhead lifting solutions and maintenance services in Chile, Peru, and Bolivia. The company has an installed base of almost 500 cranes, the majority of them built by Konecranes.

In 2009 the Gruas Koman’s revenues were around €7 Million, with 60
employees, of which around half are crane technicians. The value and terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

Koman has been a Konecranes licensee for standard duty cranes since the early 1990s. The company has an established crane maintenance business in Santiago, Antofagasta, Calama and other areas of Chile's mining districts.

Tom Sothard, head of Konecranes Americas said: "South America holds a great potential for the future growth of Konecranes. Gruas Koman is, via its installed base of equipment, an excellent base for building our service, parts and equipment business in South America."

The acquisition is expected to have no significant impact on Konecranes’ results in 2011.
