Harness saves one man
Reports have been coming over the weekend of a fatal accident in central London involving a suspended platform. Details are scant, but the accident involves two men working for a demolition contractor.
They were apparently working on a ‘floating platform’ in a lift shaft when one of the chain blocks gave way dropping one side of the platform.
The site has a strong health and safety policy in place which requires all staff working at height to wear harnesses. In this case the man who survived was hooked on to the structure of the building and may have even escaped completely uninjured.
His colleague however – assuming he was wearing his harness- was possibly not hooked on and fell to his death. If you have any further details of this sad incident that may help others, please do let us know.
