Wemo-tec moves into the UK

German based lifting specialist Wemo-tec has opened a UK rental operation to supply under bridge inspection equipment.

The Wemotec UK team, is based in Darlington in north east England and will be led on a day to day basis by commercial manager Christopher Sandford who brings eight years’ experience in the access business with him.
He began his career as a hire controller/dispatcher with truck and under-bridge specialist ES Access Platforms, which went into administration last year, and moved through the ranks to become general manager, before leaving the business around 18 months ago.

Sandford is assisted in the new venture by access veteran Peter Rees who comes out of retirement on a consulting basis and Mirko Jahn from Wemo-tec Europe based at the German headquarters.

Wemo-tec has already worked in the UK, having supplied a machine to inspect the Medway Bridge on the M2 near London last year.

The UK operation is starting off with three different units, the Moog MBI 250 a Moog MBI 150 and a compact Simon UB 40, although other models can be brought in as required from the 50 unit fleet based at the company’s continental operations.

The Wemotec fleet includes specialist access units for bridges, tunnels and road-rail, with units offering up to 25 metres below bridge outreach, reach over large noise barriers of up to 5.5 metres high and span sidewalks of up to 4.5 metres wide.
