CICA looking for engineers

The Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA) is looking for professional engineers for inclusion in its ‘CICA Endorsed Engineers List’.

The Australian crane industry has an active population of around 10,000 cranes and, according tot he associationo, it can be a challenge for its members to find suitable engineers that can satisfy their immediate requirements to carry out maintenance and repair duties.

As a result the CICA is seeking engineers to be included in a list of qualified engineers that will be published and maintained on its website. The association says that its members require assistance in the following areas of expertise:
• Design Verifications
• Major Inspection Certification
• DWP estimates for balance of life before Major Inspections
• Repairs
• Engineered lifts
• Multiple crane lifts
• Lifting gear

The range of cranes that CICA covers includes mobile cranes, tower cranes, overhead travelling cranes, loader cranes, telehandlers and concrete pumps with a view to expanding into other equipment under the AS1418 umbrella.
CICA has prepared a ‘CICA Engineers Competencies’ document that is available from the CICA web-site, or can be e-mailed by the CICA office.

An engineers selection panel will accept suitably qualified engineers from those who apply, but will not recommend any specific engineer, nor be involved in the monitory arrangements for services rendered. These arrangements are strictly between the company/user and the engineer concerned.

CICA Endorsed engineers will be expected to join the association’s Professional Services Membership Category for a nominal $50 plus GST. The service will be provided free of charge to its members to assist in a safer, and more informed Industry.
