Stay in the platform

A man fell to his death on Monday while working from an aerial lift after he climbed out of the platform to reach something.

The man, 57, was carrying out some overhead installation work in building in the town of Neenstetten in the Alb-Donau-Kreis region of Baden-Wuerttemberg. When he was unable to reach a part of the job, instead of moving the platform he climbed out of the basket and stepped on some wiring trunking which then gave way under his weight.

He fell 10 metres to the ground and sustained fatal injuries from the fall, an ambulance and medical helicopter raced to the scene but it was too late.

A criminal investigation team from Ulm is investigating the accident, but issued preliminary findings that confirm the above sequence of events.
