16 straddle carriers to DP
Australian port operator DP World has ordered 16 NCS634E diesel-electric straddle carriers from Terex Cranes.
DP World which operates from Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne has taken delivery of the first eight units and will receive the remaining eight later this year. This latest order will take the number of Terex straddle carriers in DP World’s fleet to 22.
Produced at the Terex Cranes Wuerzburg facility in Germany, the 60 tonne NCS634E straddle carriers are equipped with the EcoCap (EECO) energy saving system and have the ability to lift one container over the top of three containers whilst travelling at up to 18.6 mph.

Andrew Jena, general manager of DP World, said: “Fuel consumption data from our analysis on six of these machines indicated an 11 percent saving per hour compared to earlier diesel-hydraulic carriers. The dual benefits of increased productivity and energy efficiency will have a significant positive impact on our container handling operations as well as the environment at the Port of Melbourne”.
Guido Luini, managing director of Terex Cranes Wurzburg, added: “DP World selected our carriers following an extensive evaluation process and we’re proud to support them in its transition from earlier diesel-hydraulic models to the latest high-performing, reduced-emission Terex technology”.
