Not the first speeder!
German hoist and crane manufacturer Böcker has pointed out that Geda’s “Game Changer” claim earlier this week was inaccurate. Its transport platforms have been TÜV-certified for these speeds as standard since 2024.
It makes the point that the claim made by Geda this week is misleading, as such speeds have been standard for Böcker customers for years. And that the idea is neither new to the market nor a unique feature offered by a single manufacturer. See:
Breaking the speed limit.
A statement from Böcker said: “As early as 2008, Böcker launched a transport platform capable of reaching 24 metres per minute when carrying passengers. To unlock the considerable savings potential offered by higher speeds and greater transport capacities.”
“Böcker subjected its Super-Lift transport platforms to a comprehensive type approval two years ago. Since 16th September 2024, all MX and LX transport platforms have been certified by TÜV SÜD and achieve standard speeds of between 24 and 40 metres a minute in passenger mode. Depending on the model, also a higher number of passengers can be carried than specified in EN 16719.”
“The speed currently being marketed as a technological breakthrough and ‘Gamechanger’ is consequently not a market innovation. Against this background, the claim that the competitor in question is the first and, to date, only manufacturer to offer a TÜV-certified standard solution is factually incorrect.”
“Böcker welcomes the fact that other market players now also recognise the benefits of high-speed transport platforms. This validates the path we have chosen at an early stage and supports the continued development of high-performance, safe and cost-effective transport solutions for the construction industry.”
Vertikal Comment
Böcker makes an interesting and very valid point, and highlights how few people made a fuss when it launched its higher speed transport platforms more than two years ago. It also highlights the point that there must surely be a case for looking at changes to the EN 16719 standard?
Sadly, we did not pick this fact up ourselves, which suggests that we need to raise our game when it comes to hoists. Had something like this occurred with an aerial work platform or crane, we would have spotted it immediately – and often have done so in the past.
