Terex unites its port solutions

Terex has announced a new Terex Port Solutions division, incorporating products previously built under the Noell, Fantuzzi, PPM and Reggiane brands, as well as Gottwald which will now be marketed as Terex Gottwald.

The move was introduced at the TOC Container Supply Chain: Europe 2012 exhibition in Antwerp, Belgium which opened today.

The product range within the new division runs from ship-to-shore and mobile harbour cranes to straddle and sprinter carriers, stacking cranes, rubber tyre and rail mounted gantry cranes, reach stackers and general cargo lift trucks. It will also offer a range of software and services including systems for loading and unloading, transport, handling and storage of containerised and bulk cargo.

Terex has announced a new Terex Port Solutions division

Klaus Hoffmann, president of Terex Port Solutions, said: “Both Terex and Gottwald are well recognised as significant suppliers to the port industry, and we can best serve customers as a unified organisation that is committed to a single purpose and identity. By moving forward together, we believe Terex Port Solutions will offer more innovative products and services that aim to provide the highest return on investment, allowing our customers to be more profitable.”

Vertikal Comment

This is a logical step for Terex which through a number of acquisitions has become a major supplier of port related equipment. So far the company has announced this as a marketing, rather than a financial change, if so, the new Port Solutions business would still report into the new Material Handling & Port Solutions division which includes Demag industrial – largely overhead – cranes.

Given the totally different nature of these two business it is highly likely that Port Solutions will become the group’s sixth business ‘segment’.

One also wonders if PPM/Terex reach stacker production – which is currently carried out at the Monceau les Mines crane plant in France – will be transferred to one of the dedicated port equipment production facilities in Italy or Germany? Especially given that the Monceau les Mines facility needs space/capacity to start building self-erecting tower cranes.
