Challenger for Bruns
German rental company Bruns Schwerlast has taken delivery of a new 55 tonne Terex 3160 Challenger All Terrain crane.
The Magdeburg based company also has locations in Hildesheim and Hanover and runs a fleet of mobile cranes up to 650 tonnes, along with a heavy transport business. The crane fleet has largely been made up of Terex or Demag cranes since it moved into cranes in 1968 and then All Terrains in the 1980s.
Frank Bruns, the company’s general manager and crane operator Heiko Schneider travelled to the Terex crane plant in Zweibrücken to personally collect its latest acquisition. The three-axle 3160 which has a 50 metre main boom offers a 35.6 tonne capacity at a four metre radius. It can also travel on public roads without the need for additional ballast transport vehicles.

Bruns said: “The Challenger 3160 is an extremely powerful machine with an unbelievable level of flexibility which gives it the ability to handle many types of lifts. Thanks to the fact that we can get a long-term permit for the crane it spares us from having to waste time applying for one-time permits, giving us an unparalleled level of scheduling flexibility. This, in turn, provides us with decisive competitive advantages, especially since we’re the first crane service provider in our region to have such a machine.”
The crane went straight to work in Hildesheim and Schneider was able to drive it fully configured to the site.
