Tom Scott 1944-2012
We have received the belated news that UK crane and access entrepreneur
from the 1970s died in late July aged 67, following a long battle with prostate cancer.
Scott along with his brother Tim built up a successful crane rental company in the 1970s - Scotts Crane Hire based in their home town of Nottingham. The two then launched a series of acquisitions that turned the business into a public company and national crane and access rental business - Scott Greenham. The group expanded into powered access rental and owned at least one alloy scaffold tower manufacturer.

Tom Scott
After selling the business to BET in 1987 Tom made a swift tax-efficient move to Guernsey, relocating to Jersey in 2003. He continued his entrepreneurial activities, initially in the car dealership market, but later becoming the Marks & Spencer and Safeway/Morrisons supermarket franchisee as well getting involved with Guernsey and Jersey Gas and chairing CI Industries. His fortune grew to £175 million, in spite of substantial donations to charity.
We would welcome any further information on Tom Scott and his pre 1987 businesses.
