500th reach stacker for Kalmar

Kalmar RT has produced its 500th RT240 Rough Terrain reach stacker at its facility in Cibolo, Texas.

Originally produced in Sweden back in 1999, the RT240 was designed for the United States Armed Forces and capable of handling 20 foot and 40 foot ISO containers on a wide variety of ground conditions. It is able to stack containers weighing 24 tonnes three high in the first row and those weighing up to 12.5 tonnes three high in the second row.

In 2008, Kalmar moved the production to its Cibolo, Texas facility in order to increase product availability and reduce lead times. Recently the company has shipped its first civilian RT240 Rough Terrain reach stackers to Western Australia. For more information see: Kalmar ships first non-military handlers.

Kalmar RT’s chief executive Bryan Stephens said: “I wanted to bring everyone together today to recognise the great accomplishment of the 500th RT240 manufactured here in Cibolo. Moving manufacturing to Cibolo required quite an investment in the company's facility and human capital. The company invested $20 million in the facility expansion, going from one building to five buildings in 2008. That same year, the number of employees increased from 45 to 85. Now Kalmar RT Centre has 160 employees working for the company.”
