Chicago start up goes all Skyjack

Skyking Lift Rentals, a new access rental company that has started up in Chicago, Illinois, has purchased 130 Skyjack scissor lifts.

The new company was formed in January by Paul Zaremba, Robert Mulvey and Jeremy Coyne, all of whom are ex-employees of Chicago based access rental company Lift Works. Zaremba was operations manager for just over two years, departing in January, while Mulvey was responsible for sales for more than 11 years leaving last October. Coyne worked for the company as a territory manager for over six years, leaving the business in 2011.

When the three decided to set up their own rental company they were clear that they wanted to start off with a standardised fleet, and struck an attractive deal with Skyjack for a mix of new and used slab electric scissor lifts, including SJ12s, SJIII 3219s, SJIII 3226s and SJIII 4632s, which have 12, 19, 26 and 32ft platform heights respectively. Since the first machines arrived the company has seen exceptional utilisation levels, with strong demand from its core customers of electricians, plumbers and heating/ventilation engineers.

Paul Zaremba said: “I am not nervous that I’ve invested 100 percent of our money in Skyjack equipment—I’m nervous that I don’t have more of them. Right now we don’t own any booms but we’d love to grow that part of the business down the line.”

"Start up rental companies like us need to have newer, more reliable equipment. We need maximum equipment uptime and can’t afford to have machines breakdown since that might break the company financially. It is important to be able to do more with less and the commonality of parts across Skyjack equipment enables us to do just that. We love Skyjack equipment and are looking forward to growing our company and fleet.”
