HSE offer free training event

The UK Health and Safety Executive's construction division is inviting property developers to a free half-day training event.

The seminar, which aims to Provide construction clients with an understanding of the health and safety laws that apply to them, will take place on Monday 20 March 2006, between
10.30 and 13.00 hrs at HSE's London offices on Southwark Bridge.

During the seminar senior construction inspectors will be on hand to discuss best practice and the proposed changes to the Construction (Design Management) Regulations.

HSE construction inspector, Giles Meredith said:
"Far too often we visit construction sites where the client thinks health and safety is not their problem. Evidence clearly shows that clients who take ownership of health and safety for the life of a project, who demonstrate their commitment through their leadership on site and who work in partnership with contractors have much to gain, including a significantly better product".

Vertikal Comment

In the past year a number of Property developers have received heavy fines when accidents have occurred on their projects including a number for unsafe methods of working at height. All too often developers do not realise that while they might have employed a contractor, they are often still liable. Events such as this should help spread the message.
