Rostock takes the lead for Liebherr Maritime

Liebherr is centralising the design, sales and customer service base for mobile harbour cranes, reachstackers, ship and offshore cranes to its maritime production facility in Rostock, Germany.

The move is part of a plan to build a specialist centre of expertise at the facility which has direct sea access. It expects the new structure, that will result from the move to speed up decision making and increase productivity, while providing a simplified customer experience.

The location will also include a new Maritime Training Centre, as an integral part of the Liebherr Academy Rostock, offering customised product training to meet specific customer needs. The courses will have access to the latest Liebherr simulators, cutaway models and 3D-simulations, allowing trainees to immediately apply their new skills in practice.

The Liebherr plant in Rostock is now the company's lead maritime facility

Established in 2002 the Rostock plant has been expanded on a regular basis and now employs more than 1.400. The facility is now the lead plant for all maritime crane production centre, except container cranes that are produced in Killarney, Ireland. It has plenty of room for further expansion to its capacity and can easily handle the company’s largest mobile harbour cranes, shipping them out fully assembled if required, thanks to its direct access to the sea.

Other plants participating in the Liebherr maritime crane production network are Nenzing, Austria, Sunderland, UK and Killarney, Ireland.
