Harnesses save two

Two men were thrown from the basket of a truck mounted work platform yesterday in Louisiana and survived.

The two men, brothers Joel and Jordan Craig, were removing a large sign in Port Allen, near Baton Rouge. They were in the platform and had disconnected the sign which was then lifted clear by a boom truck. As the crane took the full load though, one of the web slings broke causing the sign to drop, it struck the aerial lift causing it to spin, catapulting the two men out of the platform.

One man was left dangling from the wires for more than 10 miuntes

Thankfully both were wearing harnesses, one was quickly rescued, while the other had a long lanyard and was thrown through the air, with his lanyard wrapping around the overhead power lines causing them to short out. Fortunately, the massive arc that it caused did not strike him and he was left dangling from the wires until the utility company arrived to rescue him around 10 minutes later.

The crane dropped the load causing the platform to act as a catapult

The two brothers were taken to hospital for a check-up but were reported to be relatively unharmed by the experience.
