Employees gather round for the ceremony, with an early JLG40 and the 100,000th unit, a JLG 400S
The unit, a model 400S 40 ft straight telescopic boom equipped with 7500watt SkyPower generator 280 amp SkyWelder, Will be auctioned off to the highest bidder with “a portion of the proceeds going to a suitable charity”
The boom lift was built at the company’s Shippensburg facility, plant manager Jason Watkins, handed the completed machine over to Craig Paylor, senior vice president, marketing at a small ceremony for employees.

Paylor said, “In 1970, JLG’s total production was one boom lift and 36 years later we’re now at our 100,000th machine. There are so many deserving customers that contributed to our success that it seems only fitting that we will not sell this unique machine to an organisation chosen by us. We’ve decided to hold a private auction exclusively for authorized JLG dealers to make this Model 400S available to all our customers, with a portion of the proceeds going to an appropriate charity.”
Vertikal Comment
In addition to the North American production, JLG has built a number of booms overseas, initially in Scotland and more recently in Belgium. So the actual 100,000th JLG boom lift was probably built in the spring.
This is however a momentous achievement and indicative of how far the aerial lift industry has progressed. A small number of companies have passed the 100,000 scissor lift mark, but JLG is almost certainly the first to build 100,000 booms lifts.
If you are a JLG distributor and would like to have this landmark machine call your JLG rep today. At least part of your bid will go to charity.
