New president for Hiab

Cargotec has appointed Scott Phillips as president of Hiab, he will take up his new position in October, when he will also join the Cargotec executive board reporting to chief executive Mika Vehviläinen.

Phillips, 52, is currently employed by General Electric as chief executive of its mining division. He joined GE in 2016 after four years with Sandvik Mining, initially as president of its Loading and Hauling operation and since 2013 a head of its global equipment business.

He began his career in 1991 with Caterpillar and remained with the company for 15 years, in various roles in the areas or operations management, manufacturing engineering, quality management, product management and global purchasing, during his time with the company he became a certified 6 sigma Black Belt.

In 2007 he moved to Signal Capital in Beijing, China, as chairman joining the Beijing office of Freeman Financial Corporation in 2008 as an executive director. He left in 2012 to join Sandvik in the Netherlands.

Vehviläinen said: "I warmly welcome Scott to Cargotec and Hiab. He has a proven track record of leading global, multi billion euro technology businesses in various geographies. I expect him together with the Hiab leadership team to further develop Hiab's business, continuing its profitable growth and supporting the ambition to be the global leader and number one partner for on-road load handling solutions."

The current Hiab president Roland Sundén will take up a corporate development role at Cargotec where he will retain his board membership and continue to report to Mika Vehviläinen.

Vehviläinen said: "I want to thank Roland for the impressive turnaround and growth in Hiab he and his team have achieved since 2014.
