Platform shields/dividers

Bronto Skylift is offer customers the drawings for its Bronto Shield divider free of charge, in order to allow local production of the item, which is designed to shield the platform operator from those who are working from the platform – the vast majority of Bronto machines are over 40 metres and rented with operator - helping maintain social distancing for the safe use of its truck mounted platforms.

The drawings also outline how users can create their own shields in house, using just basic tools and materials. The designs are fully approved by Bronto and do not comprise CE certification etc and are designed to endure standard 12.5 metres a second wind loads. It also does not interfere with the platform extension mechanism.

In a similar move, Loxam owned UK rental company Nationwide Platforms has developed its own system – SkyShield – for its fleet of truck mounted platforms. Made from a shatterproof polycarbonate material and weighing less than 15kg, the divider provides a similar physical barrier across the width and height of the basket, cordoning off the operator from customers working from the platform.

Nationwide Platform’s SkyShield

Nationwide’s Alexis Potter said: “This is just one of many safety measures we are offering our customers to help protect them from the risks of Covid-19. Ensuring workers maintain two metre distancing when it comes to using aerial work platforms can be very challenging - especially when the majority of baskets measure less than two metres. SkyShield is the perfect solution to this problem and once installed the customer is free and, importantly, safe to carry out the job at hand.”
