Maxim acquires NCSG Montana

US crane and access rental group Maxim Crane Works has acquired the Montana assets, locations and ongoing business of NCSG Crane and Heavy Haul. The acquisition includes branches in Billings, Sidney and Great Falls, Montana.

Chief operating officer, Frank Bardonaro ,said: “These additional sites and fully operational service centres will allow Maxim to increase its presence within the region, which includes the most recent opening of our Denver, Colorado branch.”

Chief executive, Bryan Carlisle, added: “We are pleased to announce the successful acquisition of the assets associated with NCSG Crane and Heavy Haul in the USA as we continue to expand our Western Region. We are excited to add the fleet, footprint and team associated with this acquisition to our Maxim family. The addition of these outstanding team members and equipment will enable us to enhance our service to the wind and renewable energy segment throughout the region. It will ensure that we are able to provide safe, reliable and available services anywhere in the USA.”

This is the second business that Maxim has acquired from NCSG as the Canadian based business appears to roll back some of the many acquisitions it has made since it was acquired by private equity owners in 2006. Last year it purchased Gulf Coast based B&G Crane Service from NSCG (see: Maxim acquires B&G). The Montana locations are NSCG’s last remaining outlets in the USA and were acquired with the purchase of H&H Crane Service in 2014. NSCG is now reduced to nine locations in Canada, while the deal gives Maxim some good coverage in a state where it previously had no presence.

Vertikal Comment

In all likelihood this acquisition was probably a bargain for Maxim, given that it is very much a buyer’s market at the moment. It increases the company’s branch network at a time when some others, such as TNT - which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month - are struggling.
