Trio for Welti-Furrer

Swiss transport and rental company Welti-Furrer has taken delivery of three Liebherr All Terrain cranes with a 50 tonne LTC 1050 3.1, 130 tonne LTM 1130-5.1 and 160 tonne LTM 1160-5.2.

Part of a fleet replacement programme, the three axle LTM 1050-3.1 features a three section 38 metre main boom plus a nine to 16 metre bi-fold swingaway extension. It was also ordered with elevating cab and Liebherr's new RemoteDrive which allows the operator to control the crane chassis from a remote control console. This way, the crane operator can position himself in the best possible location in constricted or difficult areas.

The five axle LTM 1160-5.2 features a 62 metre main boom and 19 metre bi-fold swingaway extension, whilst the five axle LTM 1130-5.1 features a 60 metre main boom plus a 33 metre lattice swingaway extension. Welti-Furrer ordered its cranes with a bi-fold swingaway, a runner and a second hoist unit.

Welti-Furrer managing director of heavy goods logistics, Fabian Meier, said: “The three new cranes will replace older vehicles and therefore strengthen our fleet in every respect and will enable us to meet all our customers’ requirements. The LTM 1130-5.1 and the LTM 1160-5.2 are very solid cranes in this size class. One of the main points in their favour is their variable outrigger base. VarioBase is still out in front in the crane market. The compact design of the LTC 1050-3.1 is perfect for jobs on congested sites. We have also ordered the telescoping crane cab and RemoteDrive, which is a real highlight, particularly for jobs inside buildings.”

Based in Windisch, just outside Zurich, Welti-Furrer was founded in 1838 and is one of the oldest transport contractors in Switzerland. The family run business employs 100 people and offers a fleet of around 30 cranes across its seven locations.
