Able takes GAR Equipment

US based Able Equipment Rental has acquired the assets, and ongoing business of New Jersey based distributor and aerial lift rental company GAR Equipment.

GAR was established around 40 years ago by Nick Gallinaro as a Grove crane distributor, with current owner and chief executive Matt Rocca joining the business as a partner. The two worked together until Gallinaro retired to Florida, passing away in 2014. The business is located in South Plainfield, New Jersey and works throughout the state, while also covering New York and Pennsylvania. The company offers products from Grove, Skyjack, JLG, Genie and Hydra underbridge inspection platforms.

The deal is aimed at increasing the size of the Able fleet and helping meet strong demand for equipment in the areas it serves, while also expanding its customer base. Able will retain the current GAR staff while owner managers Matt and Keith Rocca will also remain with the business.

Able chief executive Steve Laganas said: "For more than 40 years, GAR dependably served the needs of contractors, sub-contractors and industrial firms in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They offered a wide range of aerial products with a strong emphasis on impeccable service. We're thrilled they have joined the Able Equipment Rental team."

Chief operating officer Chris Pera added: "Strategically, it will allow us to continue to serve as a reliable provider of aerial equipment and service for GAR's current commercial and industrial clients. Additionally, we will be able to offer a wide range of other machines for rent and for sale to fulfill GAR's current customer's specific construction equipment requirements."

The Roccas said: “We believe that Able’s wide range of equipment, in addition to their sales and service offerings, will become a huge benefit to our customers. As a privately owned equipment rental company, Able has various locations serving the Northeast markets, its success is based on a solid organisational and financial structure. They also offer a very broad product line including specialty equipment, such as mini cranes, rotating telehandlers, and under-bridge access platforms.”

Able Equipment Rental was founded in 1996, and is based in Deer Park, New York. It operates from five other locations in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
