Five reconditioned Grove ATs for Locar

Brazilian rental company Locar Cranes and Intermodal Transport has purchased five reconditioned Grove All Terrain cranes consisting of four 250 tonne GMK5250Ls and a 200 tonne GMK5200. Although purchased as used cranes, the units have been reconditioned to a 'like new'' condition at the Grove plant in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.

The five cranes were purchased through the Manitowoc group’s ‘previously owned cranes program’ and were refurbished and supplied with manufacturer guarantees. As part of the program the cranes also received any updates and additions during the refurbishment phase, including accessories present in new models, such as the MAXbase variable outrigger system.

Locar director Júlio Eduardo Simões said: “The pandemic was a great challenge in early 2020, of course, but the year ended up being better than 2019, so our expectation is that the market will recover in 2021. Equipment in the Brazilian market in general is quite outdated. In the last 10 years there has been little investment in new machinery. Cranes, in particular, are showing their age. Based on this, we have been preparing and investing, anticipating market growth and an increase in demand for newer and more capable cranes in the coming months. The construction, mining and petrochemical sectors have also shown some signals of improvement in recent months. We should see the restart of large infrastructure projects soon. This motivates investment quite a bit.”

Founded in 1988, Locar has over 1,300 employees based across nine locations across Brazil.
